During the winter time, there are a few unique circumstances that you are going to encounter in regards to your hearing aids. You need to make sure that you take special care of your hearing aids in the winter time.

#1 Don't Store Your Hearing Aids in Your Car

It can be tempting to keep your hearing aids in the dashboard or glove box in your car. However, you want to keep your hearing aids stored inside of your home where the temperature is more consistent. Storing your hearing aids in your vehicle where extreme temperature changes take place between the cold air of the winter and the hot air of your heater, will cause condensation to develop inside of your hearing aids. This will damage your hearing aids and cause them to not perform correctly.

You want to store your hearing aids in a place that is dry and cool. You should keep them somewhere that is room temperature most of the time and where the humidity is kept at a controlled and consistent rate.

#2 Protect Your Ears

You want to protect your hearing aids and your ears from really loud noises. Just because you have hearing loss does not mean that you don't need to protect your ears from loud noises anymore.

If you use a snow blower, for example, the noise they make are really loud. When you use the snow blower, activate the noise reduction program on your hearing aids. You can also wear noise-canceling headphones or earmuffs over your ears to protect them from loud noise.

#3 Watch Out for Condensation

Watch out for condensation. Condensation can easily develop with the difference in temperature between the inside and outside air. Overnight, you should take your hearing aids out and open them up. This will allow your hearing aids to dry out and will help protect the integrity of your hearing aids. Open up the battery door to ensure that all condensation has a chance to evaporate from inside of your hearing aids while you sleep. This is an easy way to protect your hearing aids during the winter time.

In the winter time, be careful where you store your hearing aids. Don't keep them outside or in your car and allow them to air out at night. Also, keep protecting your hearing from loud noises like your snowblower. These three steps will help protect your hearing aids during the winter months.
